Omega, the Swiss watchmaker that went to the Moon
Founded in 1848, Omega is one of the most recognized Swiss watch manufacturers. Its Speedmaster was qualified by NASA for crewed spaceflight on March 1, 1965, and four years later it was on the wrists of the Apollo 11 crew during the first steps on the Moon. Omega also industrialized the Co-Axial escapement in 1999, and many of its current watches are Master Chronometer certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). It sits between entry-level luxury and haute horlogerie, which makes it a serious first purchase. To go further, read our Omega buying guide for Canada.
Which Omega should you choose?
| Collection | Best for | What sets it apart |
|---|---|---|
| Speedmaster Moonwatch | History lovers, a first chronograph | Since 1957, manual winding, calibre 3861, Hesalite or sapphire crystal |
| Speedmaster Snoopy | Collectors who already know the Moonwatch | Tribute to the Silver Snoopy Award given to Omega after Apollo 13 |
| Seamaster Diver 300M | Diving, sport and everyday wear | Since 1993, 300 m, ceramic bezel, helium escape valve, James Bond’s watch |
| Seamaster Aqua Terra | Office to weekend, a versatile watch | Since 2002, sporty and elegant, teak-pattern dial |
| Constellation and De Ville | A dressier style | Claws on the Constellation case, classic lines on the De Ville |
The Speedmaster and the Seamaster account for most of the demand. Their cases, crystals and bracelets feel very different on the wrist, so the best advice is still to try them in store. To compare with other brands, see our men’s luxury watches.
The Speedmaster Moonwatch and its editions
- Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch: black dial, asymmetrical 42 mm case and manual winding, true to the watches of the Apollo missions. Since 2021, it uses the Master Chronometer calibre 3861.
- Hesalite or sapphire: the Hesalite crystal is the material worn in space, with a solid caseback; the sapphire version is more scratch-resistant and shows the calibre through a transparent caseback.
- White dial: a reversed take on the classic Moonwatch, for those who already know the black one.
- Snoopy editions: they pay tribute to the Silver Snoopy Award, which NASA astronauts presented to Omega after the Apollo 13 mission.

Every Omega authenticated by our experts
The Speedmaster and the Seamaster are among the most copied watches on the market. Before it’s offered, every Omega goes through our authenticity check: calibre, serial and reference numbers, case, dial and bezel finishing, bracelet and original papers when available. See our professional authentication process.
New or pre-owned Omega?
A pre-owned Omega often gives you access right away to a reference that’s no longer made, like a Moonwatch with calibre 1861, or to a special edition that’s sold out at retailers. Every watch in our inventory clearly shows its condition. Read our guide to buying a pre-owned luxury watch in Montreal.
A specific reference in mind?
Snoopy edition, white-dial Moonwatch, a particular Seamaster: if it isn’t in our showcase, our network can often find it. Tell us what you’re looking for and book an appointment to see it in store.

Frequently asked questions about Omega watches
Yes. Founded in 1848, Omega is one of the great Swiss watch manufacturers. It makes its own movements, many of them Master Chronometer certified by METAS, and its history includes the first steps on the Moon. It sits between entry-level luxury and haute horlogerie, which makes it a common choice for a first serious watch.
The Speedmaster is a manual-winding chronograph, ideal if the space history and the classic look appeal to you. The Seamaster Diver 300M is an automatic dive watch, water resistant to 300 m, better suited to sport and swimming. The Aqua Terra sits in between, for everyday wear. Trying them in store is the best way to choose.
Yes. NASA qualified the Speedmaster for crewed spaceflight on March 1, 1965, after a series of demanding tests, and it was worn by the Apollo 11 crew in 1969. The current Moonwatch keeps the design and manual winding of those watches, with the more modern calibre 3861, Master Chronometer certified, introduced in 2021.
The Hesalite crystal is the acrylic material worn in space: it has a warm, vintage look and comes with a solid caseback. The sapphire crystal is more scratch-resistant and usually comes with a transparent caseback that shows the calibre. Both versions share the same 42 mm case and are water resistant to 50 m. It’s mostly a matter of taste.
The Speedmaster and the Seamaster are widely counterfeited, so a pre-owned Omega should always be examined by an expert before purchase. The check covers the calibre, the serial and reference numbers, the finishing of the case, dial and bezel, the bracelet and, when available, the original papers. Every Omega we offer goes through that check.
Well-maintained Omega watches generally keep part of their value on the secondary market, especially sought-after models like the Moonwatch or certain special editions, and pieces sold with box and papers. Omega is less speculative than some brands, though, and future value is never guaranteed: choose an Omega first because you love wearing it.
What our clients say
I bought my first Rolex Submariner from François and the experience was flawless. He took the time to compare the Submariner Date with the No Date, showed me the original papers and the box, and the price was fair against the market. I’d recommend him to anyone looking for an authentic luxury watch in Montreal.
What won me over was how transparent François is about authentication. He walked me through how he checks the movement and the serial number on my Tudor Black Bay. You can tell he’s genuinely passionate about watchmaking.
I sold my Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and François made me a clear offer in under 24 hours, well above what I was being offered elsewhere. No pressure, fast payment. If you want to sell a luxury watch with confidence, this is the place.
